I can’t stop listening to:
The Wedding Present, “Dalliance.” The Wedding Present will perform their essential 1991 album “Seamonsters” in full tonight at Black Cat. Recent Wakefield High School Hall of Fame inductee Mark Robinson opens, singing a medley of songs by his bands Unrest and Air Miami.
Take Washingtonian Today with you! I keep ridiculously long playlists on Apple Music and on Spotify of this year’s music recommendations. Here are 2025’s songs (Apple, Spotify), too.
Here’s some administration news you might have blocked out:
War news: Israel said it was responsible for a strike that killed Iranian Major General Majid Khademi early Monday. He was head of intelligence for the country’s Revolutionary Guard. (AP) Iran fired missiles at Haifa. (Times of Israel) Israeli and US attacks Monday killed 25 people in Iran. (AP) Here are two accounts of the complex and dangerous rescue of a US airman shot down in Iran Friday. (NYT, WSJ) Polymarket apologized for allowing bets on the fate of the crew of the F-15E Strike Eagle. (NBC News) Congress “largely has been a mere bystander in this conflict.” (Punchbowl News) Reports from US intelligence agencies “have cast doubt on how close the United States is to destroying Iran’s missile capability.” (NYT)
Strait talk: President Trump took the occasion of Easter morning to publish a profane post that threatened attacks on civilian infrastructure—the new deadline is Tuesday at 8 PM Eastern Time—unless Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz. (AP) The US and Iran are discussing a 45-day ceasefire. (Axios) Iran said it would not reopen the strait as part of such a deal and said it wouldn’t consider Trump’s deadline. (Reuters)
Administration perambulation: A federal judge extended a pause on the administration’s demand for admission information at universities that are suing over it. (NYT) Economic effects from Trump’s war in Iran “will take months, possibly years, to unwind.” (Politico) March saw strong jobs growth, but one economist warned that it’s still “likely to be a tough spring for job seekers.” (CNBC) Cybersecurity analysts were “shocked by the slipshod approach” a new White House app takes toward privacy. (NOTUS) Patrons and employees at Rome, Georgia’s Waffle House locations said they were not “aware of anyone traveling to the 24-hour restaurants by paranormal means,” despite FEMA official Gregg Phillips‘ claims of teleporting to one. The Best Thing I Ate Last Week, by Ann Limpert:

As far as luxury ingredients go, stone crabs are just about my favorite. But up until last week, my experience with them had been pretty basic (chilled with mustard sauce, the way they do it at Joe’s). They’re not easy to find around here. So I was thrilled to see them on the menu at Astoria, the cocktail hangout/Szechuan food destination in Dupont. There, the cracked claws get the ma la treatment: they’re doused in chilies and garlic and scallions, and somehow the numbing spiciness enhances the crab’s sweetness rather than bulldozing it. As with Singaporean chili crab, the dish can get messy, so don’t ignore the disposable gloves that come on the side. (1521 17th St., NW.)
