A California-based pharmaceutical company has expanded its national eye drops recall to include more than 3 million bottles distributed to retailers, including Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid. K.C. Pharmaceuticals, Inc. voluntarily initiated the recall on March 3. An FDA notice cites “lack of assur ance of sterility” as the reason. In the last week, the eye drops recall was designated a Class II recall, which, according to the FDA, is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” It’s not clear if there have been any reports of adverse effects related to the eye drops recall.
