I was happy to read in the newspaper that the state of Hawaii is expecting to take ownership of Wahiawa Dam and appurtenances soon, and that the state also plans to replace the spillway with a labyrinthine spillway of the same width. This appears to be a great idea. The “zig-zagged” configuratio n of a labyrinthine spillway would result in a longer spillway weir. This is good, as the lengthened spillway weir would enable passage of the probable maximum flood without overtopping of the dam. ...read more read less
