Attorney General Pam Bondi today becomes the second high-profile firing of the second Trump administration, and the second woman fired from the cabinet, after months in which her handling of the Epstein affair created further political liabilities for President Trump.G'bye, Pam! Less than a month af ter the unceremonious removal of Kristi Noem from the Department of Homeland Security, Trump is back to doing what he does he best, which is firing the people he previous expressed unwavering confidence in.Pam Bondi, 60, is out as Attorney General of the United States, and her deputy, Todd Blanche, will step in as Interim Attorney General, as the New York Times reports.Trump announced her departure on Truth Social, saying that she would be "transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future." Right.Bondi's firing comes after weeks of speculation that she had lost the confidence of the president and of congressional Republicans, following a series of fairly disastrous hearings regarding the Epstein Files. As the Times notes, five House Republicans on the Oversight Committee went against the president and Bondi in joining Democrats last month to subpoena her to testify behind closed doors on the Epstein Files. And back in February, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky publicly said he had lost confidence in Bondi, following one of those embarassing hearings.Politico reports that Trump met earlier this week with Environmental Protection Agency chief Lee Zeldin and allegedly spoke to him about taking over the AG role. This is a developing story.Top image: U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi answers questions from the media at the United States Capitol on March 18, 2026 in Washington, DC.
