8 mustread quotes from Fernando Mendoza at IU’s Pro Day
Apr 01, 2026
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Fernando Mendoza was back in Bloomington on Wednesday for IU’s Pro Day.
Mendoza threw to his IU teammates in front of all 32 NFL teams. Here are eight must-read quotes from Mendoza after his workout:
1. Mendoza on getting a last moment with his IU teammates
“It was a little moment of gratitude looking at all those guys and really seeing the special moments that I’ve had with each individual, whether it’s Riley (Nowakowski), whether it’s Holden (Staes), any of the receivers, the running backs, all those guys, kind of revisit all the good times we’ve had together on and off the field is very special, because it’s really unlikely we’ll all play on the same team, but hopefully to play against or play with some of those guys.”
Mendoza helped lead IU to its first national championship in program history last season. The Hoosiers beat Miami in the national championship to cap off a 16-0 season.
2. Mendoza on if there were nerves for the Pro Day
“Yeah, there’s a little bit of nerves right before, but those nerves means I’m ready and those nerves turn to energy towards the workout and to be a better quarterback. So in that essence, there were nerves, but for me it wasn’t very high stakes. It was just having fun with the guys.”
3. Mendoza on what his main focus was at Pro Day
“I think the main goal today was to serve my teammates and I think that I was able to do that, be able to put them in a position where they’ll be able to make plays, show what they got, and very excited for them.”
4. Mendoza on how Pro Day went
“I think it went great. I thought everyone showcased amazing and it was great being back in Bloomington one more time with our guys after such a fantastic finish.”
5. Mendoza on handling all of the praise and success
“It’s really easy to get fat and happy in the essence where you’re getting all this praise. You might be a top pick. All this great stuff and that I’m really just trying to learn something from a great mentor, Coach Cignetti, saying hey, kill the complacency. Every single day, make sure that you’re staying humble and hungry so you can get the best out of yourself possible.”
6. Mendoza on his approach to the NFL Draft process
“I wouldn’t really say that I have the mentality of trying to be the top pick. I’m just trying to be the best me possible, and in that aspect whatever team picks me you only need one team to believe in you. Whether you’re the first pick, whether you’re the last pick, whatever. I’m just trying to be the best quarterback I can be in September, rather than right now here in April.”
7. Mendoza on the adjustments he’ll have to make in the NFL
“There’s going to be a lot more under center, and that’s a big adjustment I need to get used to. That and just the nature of the game. Not only that, the hashes are also more condensed and the speed of the game is going to be faster. All those things I look forward to learning. Learning from a new coaching staff I’ll be blessed to have. In that, there might be some failures but I’m going to turn those into successes.”
8. Mendoza on when he has met with the Raiders
“I met with the Raiders twice. One at the combine and then another Zoom meeting, and then I plan to meet with them after this.”
The Las Vegas Raiders have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Mendoza is projected to be the first player taken.
