The Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) will revisit its decision to shut down three elementary schools. For parents, students and teachers at the schools, it most likely does not mean those campuses will stay open in the fall. In December, the VCUSD Board of Trustees voted to shut do wn Lincoln Elementary, Highland Elementary and Pennycook Elementary at the end of the 2025-26 school year. The Vallejo Sun reported that the superintendent and a board trustee exchanged text messages and agreed to talk in private about the school closures before the vote took place in public. The union representing school employees alleges that this is a violation of the state’s open meeting law, known as the Brown Act.
