Police: Woman critically injured after being stabbed by roommate in North Philly
Apr 01, 2026
A woman was critically injured, officials said, after she was stabbed in her neck by her roommate during an argument that erupted in Philly’s Hunting Park community overnight.
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. along the 4200
block of Hicks Street.
At that time, he said, first responders to a reported stabbing found a 20-year-old woman, who was conscious and talking, but was bleeding heavily and was surrounded by “a large amount of blood” after she had been stabbed in the neck.
Small said that the woman was injured when she — along with another woman who witnessed the incident — were at that scene and the victim became involved in an altercation with her roommate, a 26-year-old woman.
In the course of that argument, Small said, at some point, a bottle of bleach was thrown between the two roommates, which escalated the argument into a stabbing.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where, Small said, she was listed in critical condition.
However, he said, the roommate was not immediately apprehended.
Small said that police know the woman’s identity and they expect to apprehend her — “We know who we are looking for at this time and where she lives,” he said — and he noted that there were several surveillance cameras in the area that should have captured the incident.
Also, police have not recovered a weapon used in this incident and, Small said, police don’t know what led to the argument.
But, he said, an investigation remains ongoing.
This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
