All eight candidates for Salem City Council will speak at the Elsinore Theatre on Tuesday, March 31, as part of Salem Reporter’s Town Hall for the May 19 city election. Mayoral candidate and current city councilor Vanessa Nordyke will also appear. Mayor Julie Hoy, who is seeking reelection, opt ed not to participate. Doors to the theater at 170 High St. S.E. will open at 5 p.m. Free tickets are still available here until the event begins. From 5-6 p.m., candidates will be available in the lobby to talk to voters and residents. Below is the livestream of the event. The scheduled program will begin at 6 p.m., with roughly an hour for council candidates to speak, and an hour for Nordyke to answer questions posed by reporters. Councilors represent a specific geographic area of Salem, called a ward. Not sure which ward you live in? Check a city map here. Four current councilors are seeking reelection, and each has a challenger in the nonpartisan races.
