Officers attempted to communicate with him but were unsuccessful.SWAT teams were called to the scene and, after several hours, used an armored vehicle to breach the front door along with a drone to get a visual on Lecompte."This is all captured by done video when he came up to the front door, he didn't have the AR-15, but now he had a shotgun and I watched the video of it, he took the shotgun and he raised it up at the officers," said Sheriff Gualtieri.Detectives said the drone showed Lecompte holding a shotgun, which he then raised toward officers. Two Pinellas Park Police officers fired four rounds, striking Lecompte.Lecompte was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The officers were uninjured.Sheriff Gualtieri said before Lecompte barricaded himself inside the home, he threatened a landscaper while he was armed with an AR-15."The victim doesn't know why, he doesn't know him. The victim's been here in the area doing his landscape business in the past, but really has no business with Lecompte, doesn't have a beef with him and really doesn't have any association with him at all," said Sheriff Gualtieri. The sheriff said Lecompte, who was armed, approached the landscaper three separate times."It's pointed at the victim who is sitting in the truck. The victim is obviously scared. He thinks he's going to be shot. He calls Pinellas Park Police and he flees the area," said Sheriff Gualtieri.Sheriff Gualtieri said the task force is investigating if the suspect fired any rounds."We dont need to wait for him to shoot especially with a guy that came out already three times with an AR15 and directly pointed that AR15 at the victim. Hes the one that created this situation and it is what it is," he said. This is a developing story. Tampa Bay 28 will provide more details as they become available. ...read more read less
