The Snow League, local stakeholders excited for the competition’s stop in Park City
Mar 31, 2026
On Tuesday morning, Shaun White’s The Snow League announced that it would be coming to Park City Mountain for a competition Jan. 22-24, 2027.
Coinciding with the league’s press release was a welcoming ceremony at the resort’s Legacy Lodge, featuring White and executives from league and l
ocal organizations.
Earlier on Tuesday, The Snow League also invited Park City Ski and Snowboard Club kids to ride snowcats up into Scott’s Bowl, where they got a few laps in on post-season halfpipe structures with some of the league’s local athletes like freeskiers Nick Goepper and Hunter Hess and snowboarder Maddie Mastro.
The executives expressed overwhelming excitement for the league’s Park City stop, which comes during the traditional first weekend of the Sundance Film Festival. Sundance has been a major economic driver for Park City.
“Obviously big shoes to fill with the Sundance time slot,” White acknowledged. “But, we’re excited about it and see that as an opportunity.”
He continued, “We want to do the town of Park City proud and bring the heat, that’s what we do.”
Park City Mountain holds special memories for the greatest snowboarder of all time, who qualified for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics there. White also landed the first-ever double big-twist 1260 jump at the resort and trained at the U.S. Ski Team’s Center of Excellence in town.
Because of his Park City ties and the town’s importance in the winter sports landscape, White said he always wanted to bring the league to Park City Mountain.
“Maybe the first meeting we took was coming to Park City,” White said. “We’re so proud to be coming back here. … Feels like a homecoming with such support from the community.”
He continued, “I just know the Utah fan, they show up.”
White, who said he was locked in on his results during his career, sees the league as his way to give back to the sport.
The Snow League has held four competitions since the spring of 2025: in Aspen, Colorado, China and Switzerland; Aspen held the inaugural competition in March of 2025 and another after the Milano Cortina Olympics in late February.
The league offers the highest prize purses in freeski and snowboard halfpipe, and has equal prize money for men and women.
“Welcome to Shaun White Snow League,” said Jennifer Wesselhoff, president and CEO of the Park City Chamber/Bureau. “This is not only going to be an economic generator for all of Summit County, but also a real opportunity to continue to position ourselves as a premier destination and really focus on our Olympic legacy.”
Wesselhoff said she believes the league coming to Park City Mountain is one step towards the town demonstrating its 2034 Olympics readiness.
She also noted the history of the Park City Mountain halfpipe, mentioning how the 2002 U.S. men’s Olympic team swept the medals and Kelly Clark won the first U.S. women’s snowboarding gold medal at the resort.
“We’ve been dreaming about this for two years,” said Snow League CEO Omer Atesmen. “I couldn’t imagine a more iconic spot than here.”
He continued, “I see 20% or so of what we do as the competition itself. The other 80% is all around the town for the whole week. … We want to make this something that is unique to Park City and matches Park City itself.”
Park City Mountain CEO Deirdra Walsh said she is excited to watch Snow League athletes push their sports further at the resort. Walsh and all parties involved said they hope the next generation is inspired by January’s competition.
Park City Mountain will be constructing a 22-foot superpipe for the competition, which are rare because they takes tremendous resources to build and upkeep.
“How exciting is this?” said Sophie Goldschmidt, president and CEO of U.S. Ski and Snowboard. “And this is in our backyard. … It’s really the hub for our athletes and sports. We have so many of them training here, so this really is a dream to have this event coming here, providing training opportunities as well as world-class competition.”
Goldschmidt said The Snow League is providing necessary training and competition opportunities for her organization’s athletes.
“To be able to bring an event like this to Park City is just amazing, especially leading up to 2034,” Goldschmidt said. “I think we all feel we’ve got this eight-year horizon to really take these sports to a whole, whole new level.”
