The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is testing the Emergency Alert System on Thursday. The state coordinates the emergency preparedness test with every city. It is a mandatory drill to evaluate preparations for emergency tools. Residents may receive text messages across multiple platforms or hear sirens. All alerts will indicate if they are part of a test or a real emergency, such as severe weather, road closures, missing persons or evacuations.
