The Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown announced on Tuesday the birth of a baby ocelot. According to the zoo, the baby ocelot was born on Feb. 1, 2026, after a “carefully managed breeding process” between ocelots Rio and Mateo. Zoo officials said Rio, a first-time mother, gave birth naturally despite going through a high-risk scenario. Since the ocelot was born, the zoo has implemented a strict low-disturbance protocol to support the mother and baby. On Thursday, March 26, 2026, the zoo conducted the kitten’s first exam and confirmed the ocelot is a female. Elmwood Park Zoo’s baby ocelot had her first exam on March 26, 2026.
