CPS takes baby from suspected American Canyon mail thieves

(KRON) -- Child Protective Services agents took a 9-month-old infant into protective custody after the baby was found with a duo of suspected mail thieves in American Canyon, police said.
Forty mailboxes were broken into at 260 American Canyon Road on March 24. On Monday, police officers found the
suspects' blue Chevy Blazer parked on Broadway.
Officers watched the two suspects, 40-year-old Joseph Wright and 32-year-old Sharde Hatchett, "actively working together stealing mail," police wrote.
Hatchett and Wright, who both live in Vallejo, were detained by American Canyon Police Department officers. Inside the Chevy, investigators said they found 50 pieces of stolen mail belonging to different victims, as well as a baby in the backseat.

"Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle near the infant," ACPD wrote. Hatchett and Wright had failed to secure the baby in a car seat, police said.
They were arrested and booked into a Napa County jail on suspicion of child abuse, drug possession, conspiracy, and offenses related to mail theft.
