Security guard rescues two from burning North Bay home

(KRON) -- A security guard who was working early Monday morning in San Rafael heard cries for help coming from a nearby house that had caught fire. Before firefighters arrived, the guard rushed into the home and assisted two people to safety, according to fire officials.
The fire was reported at 2:
09 a.m. at a single-story duplex at 637 Mission Ave. Responding San Rafael Fire Department crews conducted a fire attack from inside the home as firefighters searched for any other occupants.

The fire was under control in 30 minutes and confined to the front of one of the duplex units, officials said. The other unit of the property was vacant.
SRFD praised the “selfless and brave actions of the security guard who helped bring the occupants out of the burning building to a safe location.”

The American Red Cross responded to provide resources to the two tenants who were displaced by the fire. The tenants' cats were also assisted with care by the Marin Humane Society.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
