(BCN) -- About a dozen residents at a downtown Vallejo apartment complex for seniors were displaced on Sunday morning after a fire started from what was believed to be an unattended candle. Roughly 12 residents of the Marina Tower Annex at 575 Sacramento St. were assessed and treated at the scene f or minor injuries and smoke inhalation, and one person was taken to a hospital with a minor injury following the 6 a.m. fire, according to a statement from the Vallejo Fire Department. Crews from multiple Vallejo fire stations responded, along with firefighters from the Fairfield, Benicia, Crockett, and American Canyon fire departments. Firefighters evacuated several apartments as part of the response to the fire, which was burning in a unit on the third floor. The flames were brought under control by about 7:45 a.m., according to the Vallejo Firefighters Association, the union representing Vallejo firefighters. Sprinklers helped stop the spread of the fire but caused extensive water damage, including to some units below the fire damaged one, leading to multiple units to be declared uninhabitable.The property management company is helping the displaced find accommodations, according to the Vallejo Fire Department. The fire was determined to have been accidental and caused by an unattended candle.The Marina Tower Annex is an affordable housing complex for seniors with 57 one-bedroom units.
