Gusty winds and warm temps precede stormy weather in Indiana

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Monday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana will kick off the week with spring warmth and gusty winds, but a shift toward more active and unsettled weather is moving in quickly.**
Warm and breezy today
High pressure sliding east of the region will allow souther
ly winds to ramp up, bringing a noticeable warm-up this afternoon. High temperatures should easily reach the 70s. Winds will become gusty at times, blowing out of the south and west around 30 to 35 mph.
Temperatures will be even warmer Tuesday, with highs pushing close to 80°. Like Monday, gusty winds will be an issue, with gusts up to 40 mph at times.
Storms develop Tuesday afternoon and night
The quiet stretch ends Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west. Thunderstorms are expected to develop across Illinois and move toward Indiana late Tuesday afternoon into the evening.
The best chance for stronger storms will be across northwestern portions of Central Indiana, especially during the late afternoon and early evening. The primary threats will be damaging winds and large hail, where there is a level two out of five risk for severe storms.
Flooding risk increases Tuesday night into Wednesday
As the cold front slows down and eventually stalls near the region, the focus will shift from severe weather to heavy rainfall potential for the rest of the week. Multiple rounds of showers and storms are possible Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Some areas could see repeated heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding.
The active weather pattern will continue through Saturday, with nearly daily rain chances. Seven-day rainfall estimates put totals as high as 2 to 3 inches over the next week.
Temperatures will remain above average despite the active conditions over the next several days. We will finally start to dry out by Easter Sunday, with highs cooling back to the middle 50s to wrap up the holiday weekend.
