FREMONT, Calif. (KRON) -- A car crash in Fremont left one person dead and one in jail.
Fremont police responded to reports of a solo-car crash on Grimmer Boulevard between Irvington Avenue and Carol Avenue early Saturday morning at around 1:42 a.m. Police said they found a Dodge Challenger SRT cras
hed into a series of traffic barriers.
Officials found two men at the scene, a driver and passenger. The driver was transported to hospital for his injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the car was speeding south on Grimmer Avenue. As the driver approached a bend in the road, he lost control of the car and crashed into the traffic barriers. Officials said the barriers were not obstructing the road and were not a contributing factor to the crash.
The driver was booked into the Santa Rita County Jail and charged with vehicular manslaughter.
The investigation into what caused the collision is ongoing, and drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out.
This marks Fremont's fifth fatal car crash of the year, officials said.
