Trey Kaufman-Renn received over 1,500 texts after game-winning shot SAN JOSE, Calif. (WISH) — Purdue senior forward Trey Kaufman-Renn was the hero of Purdue’s Sweet 16 win against Texas on Thursday, tipping in the game-winning shot with less than a second remaining. WISH-TV Sports Directo r Anthony Calhoun spoke with Kaufman-Renn on Friday, and Kaufman-Renn shared that he received over 1,500 texts after the game-winner. But there was one text that stood out the most to Kaufman-Renn. “I got a text from a friend of mine in high school who I haven’t talked to in probably two, three years,” Kaufman-Renn said. “So just how many people that basketball impacts, while you’re so focused on winning and the next game, it’s hard as an athlete for you to understand how many lives that you really impact.” No. 2 seed Purdue will play No. 1 seed Arizona in the Elite 8 on Saturday, with the chance to make it to the Final Four in Indianapolis.
