SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Surry man has been convicted in a shooting that killed two people and injured another in Sussex County nearly four years ago. A jury on Thursday, March 26, found Shelton L. Hardy, of Surry County, guilty of multiple charges in connection with the shooting that left t wo people dead in 2022. On Nov. 30, 2022, when officers with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office responded to the 200 block of Railroad Ave. for a reported shooting, they found two people dead and another seriously injured. The deceased victims were later identified as Ronald Ellis and Alexander Ellis, both of Waverly. Police did not say who the third victim was. They had a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest at the time. He faced multiple charges in connection with the 2022 incident, including: Two counts of first-degree murder Attempted murder Malicious wounding Two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony Two counts of shooting into an occupied building Reckless handling of a firearm Police said Hardy was convicted on all charges after a three-day trial, where the prosecutor presented evidence and witness testimony from the sheriff's office investigators, civilian witnesses, a firearms expert and a forensic specialist. Hardy will be sentenced on July 15 in Sussex County Circuit Court. 8News has asked the Sussex County Sheriff's Office for Hardy's estimated sentence.
