Purdue guard C.J. Cox shares injury update ahead of Sweet 16 SAN JOSE, Calif. (WISH) — C.J. Cox injured his right knee in Purdue’s win against Miami (FL) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The injury came early in the second half and he did not return to the game. On Wednesday , Cox said he thankfully did not tear anything. He added that he had an MRI and that everything came back “pretty good.” “Just taking it one day at a time,” Cox said. “Continuing to rehab, just seeing how it is. Not jumping in too fast, but just seeing what Chad (Young) thinks and what the staff thinks.” Chad Young is Purdue’s athletic trainer. He was clear that he wants to be able to play on Thursday against Texas in the Sweet 16. “Definitely,” Cox said. “I definitely want to help this team win the game. But if I’m not ready to go, then it is what it is.” If he is not ready to go, he is confident in his teammates’ ability to get the win. “I feel like I help the team a lot on defense and also on offense, but even if I didn’t play in the game, I feel like this team is capable of beating anyone in the country, so I’m not really worried,” Cox said. Cox was on the court practicing for the first part of Purdue’s practice on Wednesday that was open to the media. Tipoff for No. 2 seed Purdue’s game against No. 11 seed Texas in the Sweet 16 is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. on Thursday. ...read more read less
