Record-breaking heat continues to take a toll on the Sierra Nevada snowpack. Palisades Tahoe ski resort said Tuesday it expects to close in late April instead of staying open through its targeted May 25 closing date, blaming a lack of snowfall this season and a rapidly melting base. “We do n ot have a specific closing date because we are committed to going as long as conditions allow,” the resort wrote in a blog post. “We believe that Alpine can continue to operate into the first week of April and that Palisades can go until late April. Of course, this is all dependent on conditions and snowpack. There is also the likelihood of spring storms which could change things up.” Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is already closed.
