$148M PennDOT project to impact traffic around 30th Street Station until June
Mar 25, 2026
PennDOT crews, on Wednesday, will undertake a multimillion dollar bridge rehabilitation project that, officials said, will see lanes of traffic along 30th and Market streets at William H. Gray III 30th Street closed for, at least, the next few weeks.
In a statement, PennDOT officials said the ef
fort is park of a $148.9 million project to rehabilitate the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak lines, Interstate 76, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad lines.
Officials warned drivers that there will be lane closures from Wednesday, March 25, 2026 until Monday, June 1, 2026 around 30th Street Station:
Southbound 30th Street will be closed and detoured between JFK Boulevard and Market Street.
Westbound Market Street will be reduced to one lane between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street.
However, officials said, 30th Street will remain open for limited access to the west portico of 30th Street Station.
Also, officials said, those traveling through that area or to 30th Street Station using 30th Street will be directed to turn right onto JFK Boulevard to access Market Street near 32nd Street.
PennDOT said drivers should expect traffic delays through that area until construction is complete.
Through this multimillion dollar project, officials said, PennDOT is replacing Market Street bridges over Amtrak and I-76, redecking the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River, and replacing the Market Street bridge over the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad on the east side of the river.
