One person died and two were injured following a two-car crash on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard Tuesday morning. According to a city police spokesperson and a state police spokesperson, one of the involved vehicles had sped away from a state trooper’s attempt to pull the car over on a highway off-r amp soon before the fatal collision occurred. The New Haven Police Department (NHPD) first posted on the social media site X at 9:08 a.m. about how city police officers were out “with a serious motor vehicle collision” on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard between Washington Avenue and Truman Street. In a phone interview with the Independent at around 11:30 a.m., city police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart said that a state trooper had attempted to stop a vehicle — a “black, two-door coupe” — on the highway off-ramp on the Boulevard because the license plate did not belong to the car. Bruckhart said that, instead of pulling over, the car in question sped away. He said the trooper did not chase the vehicle. The fleeing car then “crashed into another vehicle,” a pickup truck, just north of Washington Avenue. Bruckhart said that the driver of the fleeing car died and that a passenger in that same car is currently at the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He said that the driver of the pickup truck that was crashed into also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Bruckhart said that police are still working to confirm the identity of the driver who died before releasing their name to the public. He said that the NHPD will be leading the investigation into the incident. At 11:54 a.m., a state police spokesperson sent the Independent the following comment about Tuesday’s fatal crash: “Updated preliminary reports indicate that a Trooper from Troop G attempted to stop a vehicle. The vehicle eluded the Trooper. Shortly after, the Trooper exited the highway and came upon a crash involving the vehicle that eluded. Per the Office of the State’s Attorney, New Haven Police Department will retain the crash investigation.”  The post 1 Dead After Blvd. Crash appeared first on New Haven Independent. ...read more read less
