Inhome caretaker arrested after disabled San Jose man dies alone
Mar 23, 2026
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- Detectives launched a months-long investigation after a 41-year-old disabled man was found emaciated, deceased, and alone inside a home on Mastic Street in San Jose.
When he was found deceased on May 17, 2025, "the descendent was emaciated and lacked basic necessities," S
an Jose Police Department spokesperson Stacie Shih wrote. Officers suspected that he was the victim of neglect.
The man was developmentally disabled and he depended on an in-home caretaker, 69-year-old Enid Acevedo of Gilroy, according to SJPD.
Acevedo had been trusted to care for the man's health and wellbeing, Shih told reporters, however, "She violated that trust, and did not make it a priority."
A coroner with the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner later determined the victim's manner of death was "homicide due to neglect," SJPD wrote. On March 18, 2026, detectives arrested Acevedo in Gilroy and booked her into jail.
