The Summit County Democratic Party will convene at its nominating convention at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Park City High School to select a Democratic nominee to fill the vacancy in the office of Summit County Clerk. Summit County Clerk Eve Furse said she will resign in April. She announced in December her intention to not seek reelection and in March decided she would step down in April before the end of her term to facilitate a smoother transition for the county’s next clerk. If I wait too much longer to see how it goes and whether I need to leave later, that puts whoever would come in after me in a really bad position.” Under Utah law, the Summit County Democratic Party has 30 days to submit a nominee to the Summit County Council, which will appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of the term. The Democratic Party said it invites qualified Democratic candidates to apply. To be considered, applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. Submissions should be emailed to Anne Kirvan, Party Chair, at [email protected]. Candidates are encouraged to review all requirements and submit materials early to ensure full consideration. Candidates must meet the legal qualifications for County Clerk under Utah Code, including: U.S. citizenship and Summit County voter registration Residency in Summit County for at least one year prior to appointment Ability to fulfill the statutory duties of County Clerk, including oversight of elections, records, and financial administration Compliance with all applicable state and local requirements A full list of candidate requirements, application forms, and submission instructions are available at scdems.org. Candidates will also be asked to provide a resume and photo to share with convention delegates. The convention is open to the public. Accredited delegates of the Summit County Democratic Party will cast votes to select the nominee.
