Thrifting, zines, and comedy geniuses abound this week. by Lindsay Costello You've heard of comedians, but did you know there are, like, comedy geniuses? A whole roster of ’em will post up at Revolution Hall to prove it this week at the Mercury’s Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy 2026. Plus, zinesters will show off their DIY wares at Reed College, Parker Posey defines chic in Party Girl, and Bar Norman returns as a pop-up with shucked oysters and a crab boil.  Monday, March 23 Stormy Daniels with Adam Pasi The Woman Who Made the President a Felon is an exaggerated way of describing Stormy Daniels. Because Donald Trump made Donald Trump a felon, when he falsified business records after paying her hush money. However, while that may be what this iconic blonde porn star is known for in mainstream culture, it's far from the juciest story in her repertoire of charming, unbelievable (yet, actually, so believable) tales. Catch her on her Unicorns in the Kitchen tour with Adam Pasi for an evening of wild stories that are sure to satisfy. (The Get Down, 680 SE 6th, $30.51-$113.96, 6 pm, more info, 21+) SUZETTE SMITH Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Stopping through Portland for just one night, dancers from the National Opera and Ballet of Ukraine perform the fairytale of Snow White—heavily influenced by the look of the 1937 Disney version—replete with toe moves, jumps, outfits, and the musical motifs of Polish composer Bogdan Pavlovsky. This production's ultra-goofy antics feel heavily geared towards younger audiences; can your dance-loving charge stay up past 7 pm on a Monday? (Newmark  Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway, 7 pm, $40, more info, all ages) SS Machine Girl / Sextile / LustSickPuppy IDK why, but gabber has never been my thing. On the other hand, hardcore—both digital and otherwise—deeply is. New York’s Machine Girl is the chaotic good flower pollinated by so many different genres it’s hard to describe (and sometimes listen to). But a flower with such a potent scent must be smelled live and in-person. Do you like house, jungle, DNB, garage, UK hardcore, hardcore, collage, harsh noise, Y2K rave, or hard tech? Well great, you’ll find something to love in machin3gir1. (Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside, 8:30 pm, $46.50+, more info, all ages) NOLAN PARKER Tuesday, March 24 Sessa / William Alexander  Though I am a new convert to the cult of Pickathon, I am of the firm belief that were São Paulo’s Sessa to play the magic farm fest, he would glide through his sets with that tropicália cool until now only reserved for the ’60s and ’70s originators of the form. His new album Pequena Vertigem de Amor is a shimmery-smooth texture of Brazilian jazz, samba, bossanova, and more, ushering us into spring and into love at the next best thing to Pickathon: Pickathon presents at Showdown Saloon. (Showdown Saloon, 1195 SE Powell, 8 pm, $25.16, more info, 21+) NP Wednesday, March 25 Joseph Jones Images of cats tend to serve as landing pads for emotional projection. How you interpret them says something interesting about your inner landscape. In a new exhibition at Adams and Ollman, London-born artist Joseph Jones studies the curious humanity embedded in the feline image. Building composites from his extensive archive of cat photos—the artist estimates he has 40 to 50 thousand of them—Jones’ oil and acrylic portraits feel as intimate as they are universal. Read our full review. (Adams and Ollman, 418 NW 8th, through Apr 11, FREE, more info, all ages) LINDSAY COSTELLO Topic Thunder Get ready for another laugh-filled evening of NEWS… waitasecond, this isn’t your ordinary news show that makes you want to stick a knife in your ear by the end of it, this is the funniest news/comedy show in town, Topic Thunder! Hosted by the whip-smart Adam Pasi and Nariko Ott, the boys catch you up on the latest news of the month (hilariously) with a bevy of local comics trotting out their best new (and newsy) material. But also along for the ride is this month’s Topic Thunder headliner, Sam Miller, who has been sober since 2008, and finds a lot of humor in his recovery. Don’t miss one of the most popular comedy shows in town! (Siren Theater, 3913 N Mississippi, 7:30 pm, $20, more info, all ages) WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY Thursday, March 26 Heather Lee Birdsong: Forgetting and Remembering Using “flat, largely opaque materials” including flashe, gouache, and charcoal powder, local artist Heather Lee Birdsong’s new exhibition of paintings explores personal and universal themes. Grief, memory, climate anxiety, and displacement—Birdsong asks questions about what it means to be human. Her paintings reflect on the juxtaposition of an uncertain world, depicting a mix of natural environments and geometric sculptures intruding in the wild. (Russo Lee Gallery, 805 NW 21st, through March 28, FREE, more info, all ages) BRI BREY Party Girl with Colibri and Frances May In Daisy von Scherler Mayer's '95 indie comedy Party Girl, Parker Posey stars as a devil-may-care 20-something It Girl in Manhattan's club scene, where she meets a hot food cart vendor, dons stolen vintage, and wiggles fashionably to Tom Tom Club. The film also has the potential to teach you something new about the Dewey Decimal system—who could resist?! Party Girl cemented Posey as an indie darling of the era and even led to a (short-lived) sitcom, so don't miss this chance to bask in the Gen X of it all. It'll screen in collaboration with floral design studio Colibri and fashion queens Frances May. (PAM CUT's Tomorrow Theater, 3530 SE Division, 7 pm, $15, more info, R) LC Also worth it: Johnny Franco and His Real Brother Dom at Holman's, more infoWe can't think of a better fit for a bar performance than the crowd-work crooning styles of Johnny Franco, his real brother Dom. The songs are catchy, the styles are sweet; Johnny will take your phone. This little residency repeats on April 16 and May 28. Friday, March 27 Portland Trail Blazers vs. Dallas Mavericks   The Dallas Mavericks are a team with something to play for, but it’s not winning basketball games. They’re led by last year’s number one draft pick, Cooper Flagg, who hopes to reach the 65-game minimum that'd qualify him to win Rookie of the Year. Flagg sports the thin goatee that seems like a uniform for the white high school basketball player, and while he’s so good he’s gearing up to play for Team USA in the next Olympics, it can almost be forgotten that he’s also literally a teenager. The rest of the Mavs, however, are not good. Ideally the Blazers can neutralize the future of USA basketball, and beat the dregs of the NBA to secure the eight seed!(Moda Center, 1 N Center Court, 7 pm, $32+, more info, all ages) CAMERON CROWELL The Mercury’s Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy! You like laughing your guts out, right? Then you won't want to miss the Portland Mercury’s Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy 2026, featuring Portland’s funniest people (and hilarious up-and-comers) all on one stage. You'll see stand-up comedians, drag artistry, and crazy stuff that defies explanation, all provided by Portland’s local undisputable geniuses! Featuring top-notch stand-up and performance from Virginia Jones, Geoff Tate, Mx. Dahlia Belle, Julian Gray, Kate Murphy, Jewels Field, and the delightful Peachy Springs, the event will be hosted by the always hilarious ADAM PASI and NARIKO OTT—with super special guest headliner MATT BRAUNGER! But get your tix quick—this laugh-out-loud show is exactly what you need right now, and will most likely sell out! (Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark, 8 pm, $20, more info, 21+) WSH           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Portland Mercury (@portlandmercury) Saturday, March 28 ReLoved: A Wedding Market While I've never been married, I've taken part in my fair share of weddings, from building the dance floor playlists to officiating. Putting together one of these shindigs is not for the fainthearted, and budgets often dwindle quickly under the long list of vendors couples enlist for their big day. Grand Gesture Books, AM Events, and Bloom Events Portland are disrupting the wedding industrial complex with ReLoved, a wedding market where couples can shop gently used decor, attire, and supplies in a casual setting (yard sale-style, organizers say) and browse unique local vendors who add a touch of DIY spirit to your standard soiree. (The Redd, 831 SE Salmon, 11 am–3 pm, $0-$20, more info, all ages) JANEY WONG  Reed Zine Fest Now in its third year, the Reed Zine Fest returns this Saturday with over 100 local community artists and student zinesters. The theme is Zinewrecked, so come dressed up in nautical gear/mermaid garb/oceanic animal costume. Workshops and mini keynotes will be held throughout the day, and treats from local bakers will be available for purchase. Bre of BrattyxBre, a zinester who has taught hundreds of thousands of people about zines on YouTube, will give the main keynote speech at 2:30 pm. Masking is required, so bring your own KN95/N95 mask—a few will be on hand, too. (Kaul Auditorium at Reed College, 3203 SE Woodstock, 11 am-4 pm, more info, FREE, all ages) KATHERINE CHEW HAMILTON           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Reed Zine Library (@reedzinelibrary) Blow Pony The 19th anniversary of Airick X's semi-regular—increasingly less regular—queer community vibes electro dance rager will be its last. And sure, I'm taking bets that it'll be back for Pride, but everyone else is taking this very seriously. If you're a Portland queer of a certain age you've definitely had some nights at Blow Pony, so why not take a final spin now that you're sober and need a sitter. I wish someone had told us back then that you can simply dance yourself blissed, provided the tunes are hot and the people real sweet. Angelica D'vil and Kornbread Jeté provide the former, if you take on the latter. (Nova PDX, 722 E Burnside, 9 pm, $18, more info, 21+) SS Also worth it: Thriftapalooza, Expo Center, more infoThose who love thrifting will most likely hit the jackpot at this huge, annual thrifting event, which promises poop-tons of gently used items and clothes and also celebrates “conscious consumption and sustainable living.” Minoru Yasui Day, Oregon Historical Society, more infoNow we look at Minoru Yasui as the first Oregonian to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom (posthumously, in 2015), but back when he was kicking out the behavior that would eventually earn him that honor, he was just an upstart lawyer, defying unconstitutional curfews and standing up for civil rights. The Minoru Yasui Legacy Project continues to ask: What would Min do? Ira Glass, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, more infoThis American Life radio show creator and host Ira Glass is one of the best speech givers of the modern stage. Whatever he has to impart on this particular "Seven Things That I've Learned" tour is worth hearing. Sunday, March 29 Bar Norman Pop-Up x Tournant Crab and Oyster Social For those who miss Bar Norman, the charming natural wine bar on SE Clinton that closed in 2024, there’s good news—owner Dana Frank is bringing back Bar Norman as a pop-up on Sunday. She’ll be curating natural wines to pair with appetizers and dinner from Tournant’s team of farm-to-table chefs. Dinner will include freshly shucked oysters, mussels escabeche, a “sea Caesar” salad with dulse dressing, clams with fregola sarde, a Dungeness crab boil, and more. The price includes appetizers, dinner, and a welcome pour of wine, but doesn't include 20 percent gratuity; additional wine will be available for purchase. (Han Oak, 511 NE 24th, 4 pm-8pm, $165, more info, 21+) KCH Stand By Me: The Film and Its Stars 40 Years Later Fans of Rob Reiner films, Stephen King stories, and these three stars from Stand By Me's 1986 cast—Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, and Wil Wheaton—should be numerous enough to fill the Schnitz to her eaves. Based on King's novella, The Body, Stand By Me is one of those movies that always seems to deepen in meaning with every viewing, and this eye-popping reunion should make its post-screening discussion one for the memory books. (Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1111 SW Broadway, 7:30 pm, $69.19, more info, all ages) SS Looking for even more events happening this week?
