SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted an enforcement at San Francisco International Airport Sunday night, an airport representative confirmed to KRON4.

The enforcement was a deportation action and unrelated to President Donald Trump's announced plan to deploy ICE agents to U.S. airports to help Transportation Security Administration personnel. An airport spokesperson told KRON4 that the federal officers were transporting two people on an outbound flight when the incident occurred.
According to State Sen. Scott Wiener, "ICE agents violently detained a mother at SFO" Sunday night. Wiener, who is running for Congress, will address the incident in a press conference at the airport Monday.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and have no reason to suspect broader enforcement action at SFO," an airport spokesperson said. "The airport's role is to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility for all passengers and staff. We were not involved in or notified in advance of this incident."
Operations at SFO continued without disruption and there was no impact to flights of passenger processing, according to airport officials. The San Francisco Police Department said is responded to a 911 call at the airport regarding the incident.
"Officers arrived on scene and determined the incident involved federal immigration officers," SFPD said. "SFPD officers were not involved in the incident but remained at the scene to maintain public safety."
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie responded, calling the incident upsetting.
"I have spoken to leaders at SFO and SFPD, and we believe this is an isolated incident," Lurie said. "We have no reason to believe there is broader federal immigration enforcement at SFO. SFPD officers remained at the scene to maintain public safety and were not involved in the incident."
Lurie cited longstanding policies under which "local law enforcement does not participate in federal civil immigration enforcement."
"These policies keep us safe and will not change as long as I'm mayor," Lurie added.
Screeners at SFO are private contractors and do not work for the TSA. SFO officials tell KRON4 that the airport is not currently on the list for Trump's proposed ICE airport deployment.
