RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Health officials are urging parents to schedule a wellness visit and ensure their children are up to date on required vaccines before the summer. Officials with the Richmond and Henrico Health District (RHHD) on Thursday, March 19, reminded families of the importance of a w ellness visit with their primary care provider, which will allow children to receive school-required immunizations and physicals before the summer months. The RHHD stressed the importance of vaccinations for children, including measles. As of March 19, the Virginia Department of Health reported 14 cases of measles, with one in Central Virginia. The department recorded five cases in total last year. Virginia mandates specific vaccines for rising students in seventh and 12th grades.
