When many businesses shut down during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Angela Henson started one. Little Bit Porch Bakery was her dream at just 15 years old. She ordered a $25 baking set from Amazon and found a way to occupy her time with it during the pandemic shutdown. “I just l ove baking,” Henson said. “It gave me something to do when we were all stuck in the house. I started in high school and now that I am 20, it has become like my full time job.” A few viral posts later and the rest is history. While her business was getting traffic in the neighborhood, she said it wasn’t until September 2025 when things really took off, thanks to a move by Texas lawmakers. Effective on September 1, 2025, the Texas Cottage Food Law allows individuals to produce and sell homemade foods directly to consumers without a license, permit or inspections. The law specifies the provider must follow strict labeling, storage and direct-to-consumer sales rules. “I have been doing it since the pandemic, but once my dad and I made the popup shop for in front of the house, it really took off. On a good week, I might bring in $2700 net for the week. I even had to slow down a little bit, because I just couldn’t keep up with the orders,” Henson said. Henson said that has allowed her little bakery to become a big community. “That is probably one of my favorite parts. I love to bake, it’s the reason I started, but I think one of my most favorite things is getting to meet people. I’ve met my neighbors. I have met people who drive 15 to 20 minutes to get here. People get to just stand there and meet each other. People that they otherwise never would have met,” Henson said. So what makes her baked goods so popular? Henson said she spends a good amount of time perfecting the recipes and getting good feedback. “Like my chocolate chip cookie recipe. It took me so long to get it to where it is now. I just kept working at it and making it better,” Henson said. She is getting more attention than just her local community now. She was featured on an episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” last week, where she said her ‘micro bakery’ got even more love. Henson’s next porch bakery is on Saturday, March 21 until she sells out. Preorder information is also available. If those are full, walk-up purchases will be allowed as well.
