Investigators identified a woman who was shot and killed by a police officer in Lacey Township, New Jersey.
On Monday, March 16, shortly after 2 a.m., Lacey Township police officers responded to a home on Hemlock Drive near the intersection of Birch Road in the Lanoka Harbor section of the townsh
ip for a report of a medical event.
When the officers arrived around 2:45 a.m., they were met by the woman who made the 911 call, later identified as 55-year-old Susanne Clarke of Lacey Township. Investigators said there was an “encounter” between the officers and Clarke. One of the officers – identified as Dallas Gant – then fired his service weapon, shooting Clarke, investigators said.
Clarke was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 a.m. Investigators have not revealed what led to the shooting but said they recovered a knife outside the home.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is currently investigating the incident. They have not yet revealed if Officer Gant was placed on leave.
