Thursday, UC Berkeley has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a group of students, which argued the university failed to protect Jewish students on campus. The lawsuit was filed back in 2023 by the Brandeis Center. It claims “Cal” allowed antisemitism to grow on campus, sp ecifically at the law school. The lawsuit cites bylaws that banned speakers supporting Zionism, a movement that advocates Israel’s right to exist in the region of Palestine. In the settlement, UC Berkeley agrees it will continue to enforce rules that govern expressive activities on the campus, prohibit discrimination and harassment, and maintain antisemitism training and education. ...read more read less
