The city of New Orleans will offer residents a free paper-shredding opportunity Saturday, March 21, as part of a recycling event aimed at safely disposing of sensitive documents and encouraging household recycling.
The event, hosted by the New Orleans Department of Sanitation, will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Recycling Drop-Off Center.
Residents of New Orleans and Orleans Parish may bring up to 50 pounds of personal documents to be shredded on-site at no cost. Officials recommend arriving early due to high demand at previous Shred Day events.
In addition to document shredding, the site will continue to accept a range of recyclable materials during regular Saturday drop-off hours, including paper products, cardboard, plastics Nos. 1 and 2, small metals, batteries, light bulbs, electronics, limited quantities of tires and televisions, and glass.
City officials said the program is designed to help residents securely dispose of confidential information while also reducing landfill waste and promoting recycling participation across the city.
The Recycling Drop-Off Center operates weekly on Saturdays and is open only to residents; businesses and organizations are not eligible to participate. Officials encourage participants to review accepted materials in advance before arriving.
