INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Marion County jury on Wednesday convicted an Indianapolis man of the 2024 killing of a man he shot multiple times before locking him in his bedroom.
The verdict for James Grossnickle was read at the conclusion of a three-day trial.
News 8 previously reported that In
dianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to a home on South Gray Street on Sept. 4, 2024, after friends of Craig Jacobs found him dead in his bedroom.
He’d reportedly been missing for several days, and when found, they located Jacobs with several gunshot wounds to the face.
Witnesses told detectives that they were concerned about Jacobs after hearing Grossnickle make several comments about shooting him. They also said they had to break Jacobs’ bedroom door down to find him.
During an interview with detectives, Grossnickle admitted to shooting Jacobs in the head multiple times until his gun jammed. Following the killing, he locked the bedroom door and used a screw to secure it.
Police later recovered the murder weapon inside Grossnickle’s vehicle.
Grossnickle also faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Grossnickle will face the firearm possession charge before his sentencing hearing on April 10.
