Police were called out in Coronado on Tuesday afternoon when 911 dispatchers got a call about a bicyclist involved in a collision with a car. The crash occurred after 1:30 on the southbound Silver Strand (state Route 75) at the intersection with Tulagi Road, near the Naval Amphibious base. Res ponding officers and the vehicle’s driver unsuccessfully rendered aid to the 78-year-old bike rider, who died at the scene, according to Coronado police. Investigators said that they did not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
