March Madness 2026: Your guide to local teams, games played in Philly

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for college basketball fans with March Madness set to begin. This year, the Philadelphia region will play a big role in the tournament with five teams from the area playing in the big dance as well as games set to take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in South
Philly.
Here’s your guide:
Which teams from the Philly, Pennsylvania and South Jersey region will play in the tournament?
On the men’s side, Villanova University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Lehigh University basketball teams will all take part in the big dance.
The 16th seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks take on the 16th seeded Prairie View AM Panthers in a First Four matchup on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:40 p.m. ET.
The 14th seeded UPenn Quakers take on the 3rd seeded Illinois Fighting Illini on Thursday, March 19, at 9:25 p.m. ET.
Finally, the 8th seeded Villanova Wildcats take on the 9th seeded Utah State Aggies on Friday, March 20, at 4:10 p.m. ET.
On the women’s side, Villanova University and Princeton University will take part in the big dance.
The 10th seeded Villanova Wildcats take on the 7th seeded Texas Tech Lady Raiders on Friday, March 20, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The 9th seeded Princeton Tigers take on the 8th seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
What games will be played in Philadelphia?
The following first round games will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philadelphia:
The 3rd seeded Virginia will take on the 14th seeded Wright State on Friday, March 20, at 1:50 p.m. ET.
The 6th seeded Tennessee will take on the 11th seeded Miami (Ohio)/SMU winner on Friday, March 20, at 4:25 p.m. ET.
The 7th seeded UCLA will take on the 10th seeded UCF on Friday, March 20, at 7:25 p.m. ET.
The 2nd seeded UConn will take on the 15th seeded Furman on Friday, March 20, at 10 p.m. ET.
Philadelphia will also host Round of 32 games but those matchups and times have not yet been determined. This article will be updated with those games once they’re scheduled.
