Mar 16, 2026
An investigation is underway, officials said, after a police officer shot and killed a woman early Monday in the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey Township at the Jersey Shore.
According to police, the incident happened just after 2 a.m. on Monday, after officers were dispatched to a property on He
mlock Drive in Lanoka Harbor for a report of, what officials called a “medical event.”
During an encounter with the individual, who was described as a “civilian-caller,” police said at about 2:44 a.m., an officer fired their firearm, striking a woman once.
The woman, officials said, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting. At the scene, officials said, investigators recovered a knife outside the home.
However, police did not immediately provide further information on the woman’s identity, did not detail any other actions that led to the shooting or say if the officer involved could face any consequences because of the deadly incident.
In a statement, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability said an investigation into the shooting is underway and no further information would immediately be provided.
