(Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Mar. 16)–An early morning fire on Monday at a home across the street west of UNL’s East Campus. Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called shortly before 5am Mo nday to a home on the southwest corner of 33rd and Fair, after smoke alarms woke up the occupants and they found smoke and flames on the second floor. LFR public information officer MJ Lierman says the residents tried to use a garden hose to put out the fire before escaping. Crews had the fire under control in a quick amount of time. Lierman says about $100,000 worth of damage was done and one person was evaluated by paramedics and taken to a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Lierman says it appears to have originated around a motorized couch.   ...read more read less
