A 27-year-old man was struck and killed by a Ford Mustang while crossing the street in North Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, police said. The crash occurred at the 1600 block of West Girard Avenue at around 2 p.m., police said. A 36-year-old driving a 2006 Ford Mustang was driving eastboun d on Girard when two people — the 27-year-old and an unidentified woman — stepped out to cross mid-block, police said. The driver then attempted to avoid the two by veering into the oncoming traffic lane, but he struck the man and the woman, police said. The man suffered severe head trauma and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m., police said. The woman was hit by the passenger side of the car and is in the hospital in stable condition, police said. According to police, the driver of the Mustang stayed on scene and called 911.
