Boston is getting ready for one of the nation’s largest celebrations of Irish heritage, Southie’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Around one million people are expected to pack the streets for the festive tradition, with police ramping up security and officials focusing on keeping the celebrati on safe, family-friendly and fun for everyone. The bars were booming Saturday, and Boston police were busy preparing for the big event. Officials have said there are no credible threats, but more officers, both in uniform and plain clothes, will be deployed along the parade route. Authorities are also urging people to report any suspicious activity and to avoid bringing any large bags or backpacks. The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. and will run a “reverse” route — beginning at Andrew Square and ending on A Street. Bars will be packed all day, and there will be house parties galore.
