Luis de La Torre got home at around 11 a.m. Saturday to find it engulfed in a plume of smoke after a neighbor called him to let him know his house was on fire.   “As soon as I heard that I just jumped on my truck. I could see the smoke from where I was and I came over and there were like three or five firetrucks over here,” Luis de La Torre said. While the De La Torre family arrived, neighbors stepped in to help rescue some of the dogs that were still inside. “14 pets…14 dogs altogether guys,” one neighbor said. Although the family says they weren’t home when the fire started, their dogs were and unfortunately three of them did not make it. “Coming here was the first thing that we had in our mind…was the dogs, the dogs, the dogs,” Sammuel de La Torre said. Neighbors helped rescue all the puppies and one of three adult dogs.  When their son, Samuel, showed up neighbors had brought out all the puppies and one of the four adults to safety. But Blue, Cora, and Zoe didn’t make it, despite fire crews performing CPR on each of them. “Devastated. They’re not just you’re dogs, they’re part of the family,” Luis de La Torre. The family is grateful to everyone who helped with the rescue efforts. Now, they’re relying on their faith to keep them pressing forward. “We’re just going to trust in God, first of all. That’s where we’re going to begin,” Sammuel Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire. ...read more read less
