LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals won the 2026 KHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship on Saturday evening, defeating the Assumption Lady Rockets 48-43. The Cardinals found themselves down at halftime, scoring just 19 points in the first half, yet trailin g by only two points at 21-19. In the second half, the Cardinals quickly took the lead and never gave it back, securing a five-point victory. This marks George Rogers Clark’s first Girls State Championship in school history. The Lady Cardinals came just short in last year’s title game, falling 65-60 to Sacred Heart. Senior Teigh Yeast was named KHSAA State Tournament MVP, averaging 14.3 points per game throughout the tournament and contributing 12 points in Saturday’s win. Junior Kennedy Stamper (12.8 PPG) and eighth-grader Eliyah Strode (9.8 PPG) joined her on the All-Tournament team.
