The Silver Hawks (23-4) will play defending state champion Papillion-LaVista South in Saturday’s 1pm championship.  The Titans defeated Bellevue West 64-61 in the other Class A semifinal thriller on Friday. Southwest is making their first finals appearance, since they finished state runner-up to Creighton Prep in 2009 and looking to become the first LPS team to win the Class A crown since Lincoln High in 2003. The Silver Hawks may be labeled the “giant killers”, considering they were outsized by Westside’s starting lineup, which consists of two 6-7 players, another at 6-8 and another at 6-10.  But Southwest utilized their quickness in transition and hit big shots from three-point range. Seniors Uzziah and Makkiah Sanders each scored 14 points to lead the Silver Hawks, but it was junior guard Dakari Wilson that stepped up for a second game and hit six three-pointers for a 24-point performance.  Southwest led 47-42 through a 7-0 run in the second half, before Westside sprinted out to a 12-0 spurt take control. The Silver Hawks counted on five steals in the fourth quarter from Uzziah and Makkiah Sanders that led to a Southwest lead and two of Wilson’s three-pointers. Westside (24-5) never could get a final shot to go for a tie with seconds remaining and Makkiah Sanders stole the ball from Emre Gedik, dripping out the basketball as time ran out before sending the Southwest faithful into a celebratory frenzy. London Dada led Westside with 23 points in the loss. Click the link to hear the game podcast. Class A Boys Basketball Semifinal: Lincoln Southwest vs. Omaha Westside 3-13-26 ...read more read less
