Former Dallas Police Association president Jaime Castro took a plea deal in a fatal crash case. The 2025 crash resulted in the death of 25-year-old Atianna Washington. Castro pleaded guilty to making a false statement to a police officer in connection to the crash that happened almost one year ag o. Castro, who was president of the Association at the time, was listed as a passenger in the vehicle involved in the crash which happened at the 25000 Block of Northwest Highway. A press release from the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said, following his plea agreement, Castro, also a nearly 30-year veteran officer, will surrender his peace officer license, complete DWI classes, pay a fine and serve one year of deferred probation. Following further probing, the DA’s office told NBC 5 that Castro specifically named someone else as the driver and said the two of them had not consumed alcohol prior to the crash. Washington’s family confirmed with NBC 5 that she was the young mother of a little boy. Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot released a statement: “This guilty plea is the result of a thorough investigation by my office’s Public Integrity Unitbased on the facts available to us. Per DPD policy, it appears the investigation at the scenewas incomplete. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was not present for and took nopart in the original investigation.” Creuzot said whether other crimes were committed stemming from the original offense is something his office may never know and called that unfortunate. Local criminal defense attorney Eric Puente, of Puente Law Firm, weighed in on the case and the message this sends. “I do believe that the message is that no one is above the la. The law applies equally to everyone,” he said. “They are officers of the court and so they are supposed to be honest in the investigation of the police department and failure to do so results in criminal charges.” During previous conversation with Washington’s family, we were told she was a good mom, and that her son had been asking for her since her death.
