Marcus’ 4 a.m. Friday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A stretch of active weather continues with strong winds today, followed by a return of rain and storms for the end of the weekend and a dramatic blast of colder air early next week. High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory in Effect Friday A powerful storm system moving through the Great Lakes will bring strong winds across the state today. A **High Wind Warning** is in effect for northeast central Indiana from 5 AM to 8 PM, where gusts could reach 50 mph or higher. The rest of central Indiana is under a **Wind Advisory** with gusts between 40 and 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected from late this morning through the afternoon hours before gradually weakening this evening as the storm system moves away from the Midwest. Aside from the wind, only a few spotty sprinkles or light showers are possible early this morning, mainly across the northern counties of central Indiana. Meanwhile, high temperatures will be a bit warmer, hitting the upper 50s to around 60° this afternoon. Quiet Weather Returns Saturday Calmer and quieter conditions are expected as high pressure briefly settles in to open the weekend on Saturday. Temperatures will remain seasonable with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low 50s. Storm System Arrives Sunday Another strong storm system will move through the Midwest on Sunday into Monday. Ahead of the storm system’s arrival, strong southerly winds will strengthen, pulling warm air back into the state and pushing temperatures into the upper 60s and lower 70s for Sunday afternoon. Wind gusts will ramp up as the storm system gets closer, and by Sunday night look for rain with a few thunderstorms to blanket the area. There is potential for a few storms to be on the stronger side Sunday night into Monday morning, with damaging winds as the primary concern, but all modes of severe weather possible. Rain is likely to continue well into the overnight hours before breaking up on the back end of the front Monday morning. Gusty Winds Continue Into Monday In the wake of the front, blustery winds and sharply colder temperatures are expected heading into Monday. We will also likely see some scattered light snow showers throughout the state. Minor accumulation on elevated surfaces is possible, but significant impacts are not expected at this time. High temperatures for Monday and into Tuesday will barely get out of the 20s. Tuesday morning lows will likely dip into the teens. Gradual Warm-Up Late Next Week After this brief cold snap to open the week, we will see a gradual warm-up by late week. There’s a slight chance for some light snow showers Wednesday morning, but highs will return to the low 40s by Wednesday afternoon. Thursday should see numbers in the 60s, with the 60s likely continuing for Friday and into next weekend. ...read more read less
