(KRON) -- Bay Area law enforcement agencies are monitoring an attack that took place at a synagogue in Michigan earlier on Thursday. In the attack, an armed man rammed his vehicle into a major synagogue in the Detroit suburbs before being shot and killed by security. Investigators are still working to identify the man and a possible motive for the attack, according to a person familiar with the matter cited by the Associated Press. The San Francisco Police Department said it was "working closely with our local Jewish community" and stepping up passing calls at places of worship and alert to any suspicious or illegal activity. SFPD said that while it was working with local, state and federal partners to assess potential threats, it was not aware of any threats to San Francisco. "We will be utilizing both uniformed and plainclothes officers to help ensure the safety of the community as we remain alert for any suspicious or illegal activity," said SFPD.
