(KRON) -- The undefeated men's basketball team of Cal State University East Bay will be hosting the NCAA Division II West Regionals this weekend in Hayward. Under coach Bryan Rooney, East Bay has climbed to No. 2 in the national rankings. The Pioneers' domination on the court marks a total transf ormation from last season, when they finished with a 11-17 record. Today, the team stands as the only undefeated team remaining in NCAA Division II, with 30 wins and zero losses. The Pioneers are led by star players Tyree Campbell, Jaayden Bush, and Josh Ijeh. Campbell was named CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year.  Last weekend, the team became CCAA Tournament champions for the first time in the university's history by defeating the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 80–63. A CSUEB spokesperson described this season as, "One of the most dramatic turnarounds in college sports. That remarkable rise brings the postseason home to Hayward." The Pioneers will host the NCAA Division II West Regionals March 13-16, welcoming eight teams from across the West Coast. The Lumberjacks and Pioneers will square off again in the opening round of the tournament. Games begin Friday, with the champion advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. ...read more read less
