RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia state troopers recovered more than 300 stolen vehicles in 2025, according to a new annual report. In 1992, Virginia State Police (VSP) launched its Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) Program -- an initiative aimed at educating both law enforcement and everyday Virgini ans on vehicle theft "so that everyone across the Commonwealth can do their part to help stop these costly crimes," VSP said. This includes things like providing training and instruction, helping law enforcement agencies purchase related equipment, running advertising campaigns and holding community events. As part of the HEAT Program, VSP released an annual report on vehicle thefts its troopers investigated in 2025. 5 without a home after outdoor fire spreads in Chesterfield, causing ‘significant damage’ During 2025, state troopers recovered 346 stolen vehicles and made 252 related arrests.
