On Thursday, March 5, Sunnyvale DPS arrested two men in connection to the incident. Alfonso Inestroza, also known as Franquin Inestroza-Martinez of Hollister, and Gerzon Chirinos, also known as Gerzon Chirinos-Munguia of Sunnyvale, were both arrested in a coordinated operation that spanned two counties and multiple law enforcement agencies, police said.
A shotgun believed to be the murder weapon was also recovered.
Both men were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder. Inestroza, police said, also had an outstanding arrest warrant for an unrelated murder case in the state of New Jersey.
The victim, Chirinos-Flores, who shares a name with one of the suspects, was the mother of a 5-year-old son, police said. At a briefing Monday, police said that Gerzon Chirinos is the boy's father.
According to police, the child is with county protective services and was not harmed in any way.
"These arrests represent an important step toward justice for Kembery and her family," said Sunnyvale Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor. "I want to commend our detectives for their relentless work and dedication in this investigation."
Police said that despite arrests being made, an investigation into the incident remains active. The crime was believed to be an isolated incident.
