The Roots of International Women’s Day International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over a century. The first official observance happened in 1911, when more than a million people across Europe gathered to advocate for women’s rights, including the right to work, vote, and hold public office. Today, the day has evolved into a global celebration of women’s achievements while also highlighting the ongoing work needed to create equal opportunities for all.
