The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest increase since Sept. 28, 2023, Friday, rising 10.4 cents to $4.998, its highest amount since June 3, 2024. The average price has increased 16 consecutive days, rising 39.1 cents, including 8.7 ce nts on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 32 cents more than one week ago, 47.1 cents higher than one month ago and 25.8 cents greater than one year ago. The average price has dropped $1.437 since rising to a record $6.435 on Oct. 5, 2022. “It’s unknown how long these price spikes will last or how high prices will climb — that will all depend on how long oil supplies remain disrupted,” Kandace Redd, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s senior public affairs specialist, said in a statement released Thursday. “Oil prices have increased by about $10 a barrel since last weekend.” The national average price rose 6.9 cents to $3.32, its highest amount since Sept. 3, 2024. It has risen six consecutive days, increasing 33.8 cents, including 5.3 cents on Thursday. The national average price is 33.8 cents more than one week ago, 42 cents higher than one month ago and 21 cents greater than one year ago. Those prices are also rising, however, according to San Diego State University Economics Professor Hisham Foad, airlines may have enough reserves to delay those prices rising, but if the war continues, there will certainly higher airfare rates. “Jet fuel prices are rising along with other fuels since jet fuel is also refined from oil.
